Adventure #01 - Conversation
Lord_Chris replied to Charles of Tours's topic in Adventures in the Duchy of Riverbourne
This post is moved from the topic "A Call to Arms: Character Creation" by @Lord_Chris I've spoken to @Charles of Tours and he says if you create your application in the same way we have, then he'll approve/deny it from there. Also though, since this thread is only for the creation and no discussion, I've moved the last three posts to the discussion thread. -
Wow, you've gone into amazing detail here. You've put loads of effort into this one! :) I'm going to stick this topic & feature it on our homepage. It also seems you've saved me a lot of work, I've been meaning to get an article like this done for a few months now, but haven't ever got around to it. Could I post this as an official article, and would you like to release the map in the tutorial as an example map? Really good work! :D

This is possible through the new search interface, but not a special link for it. Just enter your username here and nothing else, it will show your files: http://www.stronghold-nation.com/search

Yeah - I'll third that. I don't have time to download it at the moment, but from what I can see it looks like a very well made Free Build map, and you've put a lot of time into the story too.

Post your best memories of stronghold here
Lord_Chris replied to sh4d0wknight7447's topic in Stronghold 2
Yes, I remember this alright ;) Speaking of good memories, this was probably one of the best battles I've ever had, it was a constant challenge to try and think ahead of you. It seems we're both quite well matched! -
We have guidelines, but no official rules for uploading files. After a number of fairly bad files that have been uploaded to us, @Lord Vetka and I have decided to create some official rules. These new rules are adapted from already existing guidelines. We are proud of the quality and safety of the content available for download here at StrongholdNation. The staff members who test all these are volunteers. The establishment and enforcement of these rules will make the process easier for all of the staff members responsible for approving or rejecting the submitted content. All content must be tested prior to uploading All content must be checked thoroughly prior to uploading, this differs depending on the file type. Maps must be play tested prior to uploading, utility files must be checked. The minimum requirements of "Play Testing a Map" include testing to ensure that a single player map performs properly in both a win and a lose condition, or a multiplayer map works properly regardless of which estate is chosen. The minimum requirements of testing a Game Utility include ensuring that the utility functions as it is claimed to function, causes no harm to a person's computer, that it does not adversely affect the game's core functionality, and that it is free of malicious code or viruses. Malicious programs are taken extremely seriously. We will permanently disable your account, and file an abuse complaint with your internet service provider after such an occasion. Further, we reserve the right to press criminal charges for any damage attempted to be done to either our webserver, or the computer of another user. The best place to request play testers is in our Volunteer Work forum. You can create a new thread with specifics for your file. All content must be uploaded in a zip archive. Content which does not have a zip archive will not be accepted - however, any content inside the zip archive (such as a rar or 7z file will be removed from the archive by a moderator. We also reserve the right to reject such files off hand. File names can be as long or short as you wish; they will be renamed upon submission to the name of the file. What to include in your download Depending on the type of file will depend on what content should be inside. Maps Maps should generally have the map itself (or saved game file), a preview image if necessary, and a readme file for what to do with the file after downloading. The reason for this is so that users who are new to the game will know exactly what to do with the file. I have attached a template to this post, which you could consider using. This template isn't compulsory, but it must contain some kind of installation instructions for the users downloading. Maximum uploading size Files cannot be uploaded past 512 Megabytes. If you wish to upload a file larger than this, contact myself or another member of the admin team. You must provide an exceptionally good reason for a file to be uploaded over this size, and not in several files. This is not possible through the web interface, it must be attached in an email to one of us if approved. Files accepted We will not approve files for the sake of approving files. Each file is given a very thorough check before being published, involving a basic security check of the uploaded archive, a check of bad mapmaking, general errors, any scripting errors and then a playing of the actual file. And while we also welcome beginner map makers to upload their contributions, we will point out that anyone can create maps containing straight lines, these files will almost certainly be rejected. This isn't open for discussion, so this topic will simply be closed. However if you have any questions or complaints, please feel free to personal message them to myself or @Lord Vetka. From what I can tell, personally, no. I don't think it's worth paying for the extra content because it doesn't dramatically improve the gameplay or add anything of real benefit to the game that it doesn't already have.

Not at all! Thanks for explaining :) I know what you're talking about, it happens to all of us. No one will hold it against you, it's up to you when you come on and off the site. Glad to hear you're starting to come back though :)

I've attached the other two files to this post. Thanks to both of you for uploading, and sorry for my sluggish response here! Nigel Riverbourne.s2m Riverbourne Lord Vetka.s2m

I thought I'd take the time to share some of the updates I've recently fixed/added to the site: Reputation now automatically checks for reputation abuse and alerts the moderation team Announcement New to StrongholdNation - Faq is now up-to-date Downloads maintenance has now been 100% completed - new downloads section can be found at http://www.stronghold-nation.com/downloads/ and all links pointing to the old downloads section have been updated. (Shout outs to , micha!, black king]!) Downloads now has a "proper" search function. Instead of just searching for a file title, it will check exactly what you tell it to. Fixed speed issue when viewing a downloads file (and changed look) Added: Download Stats Page - you can access this from the site navigation menu -> Site Navigation -> Download Statistics Merged page to add reviews and comments to download files, they are now on the same page. When attempting to reply, hit "post reply", and if it's a review check the "this is a review" checkbox. I'm working on the final bug, which is reviews not being displayed correctly in comments. Stronghold Kingdoms is now shown in the "articles" section of the site navigation menu Fixed display issue in a few email templates, they are now also editable from the admin panel Uploaded images (i.e. avatars, download previews) are now compressed using the TingPNG Compression API. They are then immediately cached through CloudFlare to avoid the 6-8 hour delay in appearing All static content, (now including downloads, download previews and avatars) are now on our content delivery network. When you update the content, it should appear instantly. Errors are now logged in the admin panel rather than through the server I know there are still a small number of outstanding bugs, if you can identify the cause in CSS or JavaScript to any UI or browser type bugs, let me know and I'll try to get those fixed ASAP. Your admin team has done a great job dealing with the issues I haven't been able to address in a timely manner and for that we all owe them a huge thank you, they are definitely doing a great job and I know we all appreciate that more than we can ever express. Thanks everyone!

I'll see what tutorials we can create for scripting in the editor :) -

Moved to Stronghold Crusader 2. Volunteer Work is for asking for map testers, community projects. etc. We're working on new tutorials for Stronghold Crusader 2 now, but I can't put a time frame on exactly how long it will take. However, I can promise things you may be more interested in - anything specific you would like to see us focus on in the editor, more specific than just scripting? Also, if you have particular questions, you could ask them in this forum and we would be more than happy to help with those too :) -
I see no reason why not, we could attach it to one of our posts to download - but @Charles of Tours should confirm this too.

Sounds a lot like Empires Dawn of The Modern World, which is an awesome game. I think it would be really good for firefly to create a random map generator script, and when playing skirmish you can select the type of the map (for example plain land, islands .etc) and then the random map generator would create a valid map for that category. I have a bunch of ideas, but don't have time at the moment. :( I'll try and let you know later today.

Just a few more days left folks. Make sure to get your entry in! :)

May I be the first to congratulate him! Congratulations @Crusader1307 on the promotion! :D ** Throws and streaks confetti **

That does indeed look awesome :) I haven't tried it out yet, but a friend of mine has and he says that it's much better than Windows 8. The start menu on Windows 8 is a pain not having, but there are alternatives that can be downloaded, for example I use Classic Shell. I have a feeling it uses slightly more resources being an external program, but it's better than nothing. Glad to see them bringing back the start menu, anyway. What would you say the best part of Windows 10 is? Do they still have a start screen?

That's too bad @LordPaultheDubious, very unlucky! Best of luck next time :)

According to this, everything seems to be in order on your end of things. The only thing it doesn't tell us is what version of the game you have. The symptoms you're describing are that of someone playing 1.4 and someone else playing 1.4.1. This, you can verify by: Pressing WINDOWS + R -> type "regedit.exe" -> [Press Enter] -> Search the registry for "Firefly" & "Stronghold 2". Check any registry values by left clicking on them and see if anything says either 1.4 or 1.4.1. Providing you don't alter anything, this will not do any harm to your system. If you change something somehow and don't know what you're doing, without exactly following the guide above, it could break your machine. We are not held responsible if you do. Could you provide with the exact steps which you perform when playing GameRanger? For example, do you play with random people or certain people?

Indeed then, it does seem that Firefly does not have a publisher for this program.
