  1. To say the truth, I was also a little bit upset first time I tried it. Though after beating it I had no doubts others had managed it too. First I didn't read your introduction text, so I didn't know what would happen if my population goes too high, and all that had happened, with me thinking that was just supposed to happen anyway. But I was satisfied with my castle and my economy, that didn't slow me too much, and with more planning it would have slowed me even less. Then I faced Saladin with the confidence of Zapp Brannigan. :D (A Futurama reference.) He wiped the floor with me. This is my castle from the first attempt, I think it's from nine years before Saladin's attack. You succeeded in this! :D And this is the castle from my second attemp. Here I made significantly larger weapon production, while taking care not to have to many people. With these troops I fought for 10 years against Saladin. I was expecting my crossbowmen to wipe Saladin's Arabian troops (which have weaker armor) easily, but not. Then I was thinking "this is ridiculous", God knows how many troops I have to defeat here. :D Then I decided to load the game some time before Saladin's attack. Now I moved my swordsmen and pikemen on the walls, and I stockpiled some pitch. Strangely to me, slingers were pretty nasty here! So I was mostly putting them to fire when possible. If that wasn't possible, I would be sending swordsmen to go out, and eliminate them. They were doing it much more easily than crossbowmen in all that crowd, and it was giving them some relief. Still, this wasn't enough. At some moment Saladin wiped all my archers and crossbowmen from the eastern part of the fort. Then I moved everybody back to the keep. Swordsmen were getting weaker because they were on the ground with frequent plague, but they were strong enough to stop the first waves of Saladin's troops storming into the castle. In the end, I survived with 100 crosbowmen and some archers. I lost about 200 crossbowmen and more than 60 swordsmen and 30 pikemen, maybe more. This was my castle after repelling all of the attacks. I hope somebody else will give it a shot too, and share their impressions with us. :) Also, I like the fact that you disabled portable shields here, I like how you wanted the player to play and fight "the way it was supposed to be played and fought". I will have a look at these links tomorrow, I hope I will be able to fix it.
  2. Hey there, I thought this might be an interesting thread to have. I shall start with the latest scenario Jacob's Ford submitted by Korsfarer Mogens. Jacob's Ford was supposed to be a stronghold near Jordan river. However, it was short-lived, because Crusaders there were defeated by Saladin. Korsfarer Mogens wrote much more about the history. In this scenario you are supposed to try to finish Jacob's Ford and to defend it against Saladin. This is an interesting scenario. I tried it two times, but I failed. If you would like to give it a try, keep in mind: don't make population larger than 116. Or you can try, but then you would need to manage fire and plague. Not that it's not doable I suppose. Another thing to have in mind: you won't have any serous attack until the end. Try to focus on building your defenses for the final attack, while your four knights will be more than enough to eliminate any treat which comes before it. I apologize to Korsfarer Mogens if he thinks these are spoilers, but I hope these are more like a description of a scenario. This is not a war scenario where you fight all the time, in this scenario you prepare for one final epic battle. I tried this one two times. First time I didn't know what to expect at all, I didn't even read the intructions by Korsfarer Mogens at all. Second time I did, and I was sure I would prevail, but I didn't. Maybe I need much more troops, or maybe it would be enough to fight smarter, and at least not lose my archers and crossbowmen before the final blow. Korsfarer Mogens, has somebody managed to win this scenario? :D By the way, in my second attempt, I was defending until 1189. I managed to repel the attacks for 10 years. :) Anybody else would like to try? I didn't tell how much troops I had before the attack, but if somebody is interested to know, I would tell. UPDATE: I made it, I won! :D This time I used the stronghold from my second attempt, so it's the same number of troops. I noticed in my second attempt that Saladin was sending huge amounts of slingers together with horse archers and Arabian bowmen. In such huge numbers they were able to take down many of my defenders. Fortunately, their range is short, so I was putting pitch close to my walls, and there I was setting them to fire. This was hard to do too, because the attacks were frequent and long-lasting, so I needed to choose the right time to set it to fire. Both because it was expensive for me, and even if I had it more in the stockpile, rarely I was able to place it, almost always some enemy unit would be around. That is why I was sending about 25 swordsmen from the gate to kill those slingers and archers to relief the archers and crossbowmen. This scenario wouldn't have been as interesting if that was enough. It wasn't. Once I lost more than half of my crossbowmen and archers, I was not able to defend the stronghold from all directions properly. At this moment I moved all to the stone keep. Many more swordsmen died due to plague while fight like this, but I did it. After long fighting, Saladin lost almost all of his range units. Then came Arabian swordsmen and assassins in huge waves. This is when all of my swordsmen and pikemen fell defending their lord, but the enemy was stopped! This wasn't the end. My castle was ruined, and I still needed to complete my castle. This was yet another challenge - with frequent plagues and popularity at 0. Still, even that is no challenge compared to surviving these massive attacks by Saladin. This is a very fun scenario to play!
  3. That's great, I'm happy you liked the idea. :D By the way, I hope you're all doing well during these days while Europe is in mess. Take care, everybody. Though what we can take as an advantage, we actually like to spend some time with Stronghold and some other games. If somebody would like to have a multiplayer game y that would also be a nice idea. Perhaps even playtest a newly made map in multiplayer. :)
  4. Another thing. :D Now I know I wrote the previous post here from the phone. "back in the groove day". Weird typos like this this happen to me only when typing from the phone with autocorrect. :D But really, it meant to me a lot. :) Now I'm working, and I can afford myself to buy stuff like this, but back in 2015 I had just got the job at my faculty, and it was way harder to spare some money. :)
  5. Hi Paul! Doing fine here. :) I hope everything is great at you as well. :) This reminds me how we need a thread in this forum for "handing out". That sounds cool, those resources are surely going to be valuable to people. So, moderators of this subforum - what do you say we rename this topic into something, and pin it. I bet Chris would like something Inn of the Prancing Pony. :D
  6. Hi Paul, glad to see you around! Well, yes, they might incorporate some legends into game, but I think the game is at least meant to be realistic. I get my knows about the new game from YouTube. I've subscribed to their channel, and now and then I check whether they have some new informative videos about the game. I find it one of the easiest ways, though some videos appear to be too much boring to watch, at least they are not in my taste, so those videos I skip. :)
  7. Hi. I tried to delete one of my posts, but I got the following error. I no longer wish to delete the message, I just changed the text, but I'm telling about the error just in case.
  8. That's cool. :D I was asking some questions before, but none of them they answered out loud by speaking up my username. You asked this question at Discord, I presume? What bothered me before was that they were replying mostly to questions from Facebook, while the video is on YouTube. Though it doesn't matter much, the most important thing is for them to make this game right. :)
  9. Hey, guys. Another video by Firefly, I think this one is worth watching. This is not the only one, and it's also not so new, but it's a Q&A video. Also, graphics looks pretty nice in this video.
  10. You may try to change to the other forum theme. I have the other theme, and I don't see any snowfall, :) though I have the other theme because it's mobile friendly. Still, snowfall is cool. :D
  11. There is a new video about Stronghold Warlords. In this one they speak more about the sim aspect of the game. Among other things, they are showing how in this Stronghold game we will be able to build roads in your castle. Here's the video. They mention that one of them was working on Zeus for example, so no wonder we got the roads now. :) This could be a good one, but we shall see.
  12. Great job, this looks really amazing!
  13. Korsfarer Mogens, welcome to Stronghold Nation! (Though I feel like we were "taking" before.) Like Crusader already said - certainly, we would love to see more of your content in the Download Central. It doesn't matter if they are old, or whatever. Plus, this might be a chance for some newer players to find more quality maps and stuff - which your content certainly is. I've played your Desert Breeze map, it's really an exciting scenario! I barely survived it from my first attempt. The only thing that I missed is that, once I defeated the Arabs, that was it - only to enclose the castle. I think it would be great to have one more objective, such as "produce X swords". Great map! Just take your time, and take care!
  14. Thanks for letting know others about this. This might be very useful for anybody wanting their hands on the new Stronghold. I did know about this, but not this much in detail. I merely knew that this exists. A sidenote. Thanks to something like this I got my copy of Crusader 2 back in the groove day. :D I think it was Nigel who told back then that I could ask for the game if I was to make a gameplay video and promote the game. Again, thanks Nigel. :D
  15. Lads, join me in the hype train! :D This time you're going to see some of the new troops, and I say - they look really cool.
  16. Although in this case the game seems to be less about legends than Stronghold Legends - there will be no magic. Meaning there will be no mythical creatures. That I like. :)
  17. Hey guys. There is another video by Firefly about Stronghold Warlords. :) This one is about history, though it speaks about some stuff that are going to be a part of the campaign. It might be interesting to hear Crusader's thoughts. :) I'm not enough familiar with Vietnamese history, but according to Firefly, if somebody was about to tell a story about Vietnam's history, this part would have to be included. :)
  18. Thank you. By the way, I'm still getting the error when trying to post a comment at Desert Breeze map. This is the error.
  19. I've noticed another server error. When I followed your link: https://forums.stronghold-nation.com/help/#bbcode Also, below this box in which I type this post, there are links: BBCode: on URL tag: on IMG tag: on Smilies: on. When I click on them, I get the server server error.
  20. There is a new video on YouTube about Stronghold Warlords. They are showing us a little bit more in detail about how exactly they plan to introduce gunpowder. I'm sharing the link below. Stronghold: Warlords - Introducing Gunpowder
  21. I understand. I'm that case, I will sit, and comfortably wait for updates from you guys. :D To tag someone... I'm not sure. There is a way to add somebody by bbcode, them I think the name is in the color of the member, and I think that it also serves as a link to the profile page then. But I don't think this would make this user get a notification. Maybe Chris could help us with that. :)
  22. Well, I truly hope that you keep your conversation here, instead of in some chat. :D That way others could benefit from it as well. :) *Ehm*, this is where Tapatalk, or something similar, would be really helpful - by enabling people to visit the forum from their smartphones through an app. However, guys, if you didn't know, this forum also has a mobile friendly template. I use it, and this way it's easier read and post replies right from my bed. :D Cheers. :D
  23. There's been another video by Firefly about Stronghold Warlords, they were answering some questions. Not much new to see though, but somebody might actually find an answer on some of his putem questions, so I'm sharing the link. :)
  24. All this sound really great. I will check those out. Though, when it comes to AI castles I would actually use in the game, those would be "almost original castles". Just like I did with some other castles: for Lionheart in Crusader, or for William in Stronghold 2 - I merely wanted to fix them. I don't want to lose what comes with AI lord's character. For example, one does not stop Pig from using macemen. :D On the other hand - improve his economy by making him build bigger production, or making him attack or defend more efficiently - all that sounds really good. Thanks for sharing this with us. :)
