You got it right.😄 Indeed, although it is interesting to finally see in a non-Stronghold game troops being able to climb the walls, it cannot beat any Stronghold game in which you can setup your defenses in so many ways; by doing so in Stronghold, you do not simply get that extra resistance for troops on the walls, but you plan yourself how to protect your troops better and, of course, how to cripple the enemy better.😄 So much different, and let's not even start about other things. I would still prefer to spend some free time with Warlords than with AoE4 - even if I had AoE4 right now. Thank you Nigel! And indeed, working with students is fun. Too bad I never used the chance to make my grammar school students form a Stronghold Crusader clan, that would have been interesting to see.😄

I agree, Stronghold Legends is a good example how Firefly made a game with factions. They could have used Game of Thrones as inspiration, though like you said, that TV show has ended years ago, and not to mentioned how they messed up the last several seasons, especially the final one. That's why I have a feeling that Game of Thrones is going to be soon forgotten. I mean, I expect it to be remembered as a TV show everybody watched at some moment. But I don't think it's going to be a show people will ever come back to re-watch. Exactly, Stronghold through time sounds interesting. They could make it start in the Early Middle Ages, and up until Renaissance - when strongholds still didn't differ much from those from Middle Ages. Thanks for the suggestions! Yes, I remember you mentioning it before, but now you reminded me.🙂 And yes, same with me with Stronghold Warlords, I still didn't use the chance to fully enjoy the new game.😄 Thank you for your sympathy. It's similar for me. I used to think what a Stronghold game with different factions would look like - if those factions were made in a way more similar to Age of Empires, where one cannot use the best of each faction in a single game. Right now the game seems to be too much CPU demanding, so it is likely that I will have no choice but to wait until getting hands on a better CPU... Well, unfortunately, not everything was going smoothly with health in my family.😟 My grandmother had got covid in October, but she is fine now and getting better. She needed to be hospitalized, she was in the hospital for almost two weeks. So happy she's back on track now, being able to do basing stuff on her own now... The other thing is that my girlfriends father got diagnosed with cancer in July; we were struggling so hard to help him, the girlfriend was doing everything she could, but he passed away two weeks ago... I don't know how things are going in other countries, but it is really harsh here in Serbia, and it is extremely important to stay healthy - and avoid getting covid. Not just for covid itself, but because when somebody has any serious health issue, before admitting him into hospital, first thing they do is doing the covid test. And they are positive, they don't want to mix him with patients who are negative on covid, and thus they don't receive the proper treatment. As if they are admitted into hospital, being put together with other covid patients, and with their condition being monitored by doctors who treat covid and not their primary illness. Similar thing happened to my girlfriends father, who caught covid in the hospital. Anyway, things can be different in other countries, especially in the West, but surely covid makes things harder everywhere in the world. As for life as a Professor, I should soon become an Assistant Professor at my faculty. I should be signing the contract in the following weeks; fingers crossed! In the meantime, I've been mostly doing exercises with students and doing research, which are both very interesting to me. In the next semester, I should be able to give lectures on my own - to be "the professor".😊 But that's just some things that come after hard work and with "a little bit" of luck, but really, the most important thing is to stay healthy, especially these days with covid.

Hey guys! Many of us have surely noticed Age of Empires 4 being released recently. Usually there would be less reason to talk about it here; however, it got my attention that walls in Age of Empires 4 are more useful than in any other Age of Empires game before considering that ranged units can be sent atop the walls. This way, those units on the wall should receive only 1/3 of the damage, if I'm not wrong. It's still far from any Stronghold game, though, but I thought it's something worth our attention.😁 Have any of you got the game? I still haven't, I plan to wait for a discount. Plus, I'm not sure how it is going to work with my Ryzen 3 CPU. Possibly, it won't work at all, but I would definitely give it a shot. How are you guys doing?

Hi, I just wanted to point that, when I try to post a message with a YouTube link, I get the following message. Now, this message does not appear when I put the youtube link in the URL BB tag, it appears only when I just copy/paste the link. That's when the forum tries to embed the video into the post. I try posting the link in this topic. Not much of a problem, it's not important for me to embed the video into a post, I don't care about that at all. But still, I think it's important to tell because of others.🙂

Hey guys, check out this video. If you don't have much time, just skip to the last minute where Abbot attacks and kills Caliph. From this video you can see how good job they are doing with the Unofficial Crusader Patch. First, both Abbot and Caliph have stronger castles. Then, Abbot uses pikemen and swordsmen beside monks. He even uses siege towers. And finally, when you see the last battle, you will notice how larger armies are gathered, and it appears to me that the AI is much smarter when attacking; he goes straight to kill, not sending his troops all around. Though, the other thing one could notice is that two patches are applied here - Stronghold Europe (or Stronghold Germany, as it's called here, I don't know if there's a difference), and the Unofficial Crusader Patch. The Unofficial Crusader Patch has become quite popular, it seems. Even Firefly has made a video on YouTube about it few weeks ago.

This is cool, thanks Nigel! They are bringing some nice features into the game. I like the way they are introducing the hospital for example. Some suspect how now is everybody going to fight for the warlords with the hospital, but I think it's yet to be seen. Those who just want to rush their opponents might not care much about it, while those who like to "turtle" during the game will love the new feature, I think.🙂 Either way, it is something I wanted to have in every single Stronghold game.😎

Bandicam did the job well for me. Although, like I said, I'm not sure if you are going to need to buy the full version. You would need to test it. As for cracked versions of any program, this community has strict policy regarding piracy. Any seeking for help about how to "crack" a program is forbidden. Keep that in mind. Both asking for help with piracy and providing any sort of help about that is forbidden. As for free programs, maybe you could try Apowersoft Online Screen Recorder. It works online, you do need to install some small piece of software however, a plugin or something, but it has very few limitations (if any). I used it for something else recently. Hopefully it can record Stronghold Crusader, too.

I realize this is not an answer to your question, but perhaps you may want to try with a different video recording software.🤔 You may try to play the game in windows mode, but even then the final result wouldn't be as good as if you recorded it "properly". Though, I must say I realize your trouble. I'm guessing you're trying to do it by some free software, and many of them have some limitations. Mostly you notice them only when you try them - when you see, for example, that maximum length of the recording is, say, 15 minutes... If you don't find any other solution, you may even try with Skype for example! Make a video call to yourself, share your screen, and record it. That has it's downsides too. I like Bandicam for example! You may want to try it, and maybe even the free version does the job for you!

Well, it's not fully resolved, I'll still thinking about it.[emoji1] I still have to complete that revision, and there are some other parts too that require some attention. So I may come back to it. Also, from what all of you said, I guess that "namely" isn't bad for such situations. I'm hearing it here from several native speakers. But still, if a reviewer mentions something like that, I would tent to follow his advice as much as possible, and to "disobey" only if I have a hard proof that I am right. I still want that thing of mine published, and fighting for my right to write "namely" in one single place in my paper wouldn't be worth risking it.[emoji38] So, I think that I will continue to use "namely" as I did before, but just not in this case in particular. Thank you! My mind is in the same state right now.😄 In the meantime, I came up to this solution. At least for until a better solution is found. (In this case, the "namely" is being replaced by a short sentence.) Actually, that is what makes it harder to me - the fact that the explanation is not short. The best would be if I could write "It is like that and that, because of that and that", but that way the sentence would be too long. Interesting how, to appreciate something, especially somebody else's abilities, you often need to struggle with it yourself. When you know yourself how hard that one thing can be.😄

I came into this dilemma after being pointed out by a reviewer that "namely" might now be appropriate. And now after doing some googling, it seems that he might be correct. I'm not finding examples with "namely" being used the way I wanted. So, while I wanted "by namely" to introduce an explanation of the previous, it appears that "namely" should be used to name some examples, or to tell what I mean in particular. So, it wouldn't be for an explanation "why is something like that", but "what in particular". Maybe I'm just overthinking...😕

Well, yes, my mistake, I should have made another example. Maybe I could try to make an example from history.😁 I think that "whereas" wouldn't fit in because I think that "whereas" is for there is some contrast between the first and the second statement. In my case, I want the first statement to be an information, and the second statement further explains why is the first statement true. And yes, dropping the adverb altogether seems like it would do the job. In this case I wouldn't have a wrong use of "namely" nor some other adverb. Only I wanted to put some clue for the reader that the explanation follows. (Which may be important in mathematical text where the reader usually thinks "why is that the case, how did he make this conclusion".) Also, another way to deal with this might be to change the structure of sentences in the entire paragraph. But before that, I hope that there is some suiting adverb for this.😁

Hey guys! I'm writing some mathematical proofs, and it should be in formal language, though I think the text needing to be more formal shouldn't make it harder. It turns out that I tried to used "namely" wrong, i.e. I should have used another word. What I wanted to do is to give the information in one sentence, and then in the next sentence to give the explanation why is that the case. Something like this: I hope I gave a good example here. So, I think that the use of "namely" is wrong here, but I am unsure what other word to use? Because now I think that namely should be used in sentences as the following. But maybe "namely" can be used in both occasions?

I see. Well, we can claim Firefly for making these exploits possible, but on the other hand, many other games, in which there are almost no exploits, are way simpler than Stronghold. Sure, there are fewer exploits in Age of Empires, but it's way simpler. Even Warcraft and Dota are way simpler in my option. Yes, they have tons of potions and what not, but that's just messing up with numbers. What we want to have from Firefly is a castle sim, and being able to make castle defences. Much more complex than the stone-rock-scissors thing... Although we would like to have even more of that in Warlords, such as moats, but oh well... As for those cheesy tactics, have yet to see them. [emoji1] I have noticed for example flamethrower doing his business from the siege tower for example. It seems unnatural, but I shall see. Maybe I just want like it like that combination of horse archers and portable shields. Or maybe not - if the flamethrower can be easily killed... It may also depend of the price of these units, and the cost of damage they can deal. But I wish Firefly did something at least with those numbers from economy. It shouldn't be like in Stronghold 2 where players can just produce bread, and simply buy everything else, and actually be more efficient this way than by producing all things on your own. Certainly, that would be great! For now I just want to get used to the game some more, to have a grasp about different types of units, managing the castle, controlling popularity, etc. Although, I must say, it worries me a bit to see how few people visit Steam Discussions. I hope that people didn't give up on this game so soon. And, by the way, I must say that, after some time of playing it, I have started seeing some things that I wish Firefly did better. Minimaps are not so great for example, especially the ones that we see in Steam Workshop. Although that could be our chance - we wouldn't force people into posting those minimaps with so little information. Woodcutters now cut bamboo only... Why is that, when in the map editor there are some many other tree types... By the way, do you know if bamboo forests regenerate? I think they don't? We have no option to choose a crest... Nor we have an option to choose which lord (Mongol, Chinese, etc.) we want to be right from the main menu.
