  1. That's quite interesting what you managed. I guess only Firefly could do it, but today, I don't know... Today maybe not even they could do the task. Perhaps they have been simply left by their valuable developers who worked on Stronghold 1 and Crusader 1, and those younger ones are not into that old engine as much. Those games were made more than 15 years ago...
  2. I think you shouldn't post two messages 2 minutes one after the other. ;) Just use the Edit option. Also, I don't see why you try to copy text from an advanced text editor in here. Keep in mind this is an forum, and as usual, it uses bbcode. So of course pictures are not going to be displayed. They need to be uploaded somewhere, and then inserted using bbcode. But we shall not go too much into off topic, for any question about that open a new thread. But the idea of making text offline, and then posting it is nice, but I assume that a text editor like that needs to support bbcode. Type what you want offline, and export bbcode of what you got. But like I said, that's a story for another thread. Well, you may not like to play against humans, but in that case you might like playing with a human ally against computer opponents by giving them great advantage in map position and beginning resources. Sure, you would like to have a better editor, what's good of it if nobody uses it to make maps. :p But sure, you look at it from one angle, but those who like to make good looking maps probably look at it as on painting for example. They like to make a good map, and they are able to relax while doing it, and they don't get frustrated about how much time they spend. Plus, with time people learn to make beautiful details on a map in shorter time. That's just my case, that's how I look at Stronghold 2 map making for example, or Stronghold/Crusader, though I don't have as much time for that as I would love to have. I haven't managed to win all of the missions with zero loses, but we obviously have different goals. I like to play the way it was meant to be played, and you like to use tricks and whatever means necessary to achieve that. But don't get me wrong, I don't think I would be able to accomplish that. Hmm, hacking... That's how we got some nice mods, including Stronghold Europe. I would like if somebody could enable 600x600 maps, or 800x800, but I guess it's not going to happen. However, I am pleased with what we have, Stronghold Europe and Stronghold Russian Story mods are amazing for example. Including GMB mod.
  3. Just don't shoot them, GOGHacker, they are good guys. :D Shoot them a personal message. :D
  4. Heck, I am going to download it, and burn to a disk, and everything. These things have to be saved for generations to come. :D 'member how hardly we managed to find the Stronghold 2 AI Manager, for playing with AI lords in multiplayer? Yes, I 'member. :D Thank you for your work, all that sounds awesome!
  5. Hi, welcome to Stronghold Nations. Those are some interesting examples. Regarding that trick with worker not needing to go to stockpile, in Crusader it is possible to achieve a similar thing with stone. By blocking stone quarries' or oxen one can transport stone directly to the stockpile. Also the more workers bug... It is a frequently exploited bug in Crusader online games. I don't know how exactly one does it, but they do it for fletcher's workshops to make more crossbows, etc. I think they do it in similar way, but not with pause, but when the game loses the connection for a moment, and it starts reconnecting. But I don't like playing like that. In multiplayer it is definitely unfair, and what we want is players to fight over resources by employing some interesting tactic's, instead of showing who knows more useful exploits. That is why we even made some rules for multiplayer in almost all Stronghold games. And me personally. I just prefer to enjoy the game by building fine castles, and play the game the way it was supposed to be played. I don't even like to play with portable shields. Not against computer, and not against men. Awesome to have one more guy here! :)
  6. This is quite detailed review. I am going to read it entirely some time later. By the way we also have this thread. https://forums.stronghold-nation.com/topic/805-stronghold-2-steam-edition/ Maybe these two should be merged? Or you wanted this one to be here as a review. Both ways would work, your review is a fitting start of an official Stronghold 2 SE thread. Few things based on what I have read by now. I have noticed some bugs as well. Have you been thinking about reporting them? I've done it once or few times, and they did reply to me, and later the bugs were fixed. Though the game still has some bugs, I remember my mom playing free build games in Stronghold 2 SE, when at some moment she couldn't build anything at some tiles. As if something was there, but invisible. I hope they've fixed that by now. And about the stone bars, I have to say I actually like them. :D I think it looks much better then some black bars, plus it brings this "Stronghold feel", as this is what Firefly has dealt with high resolutions in Crusader as well. :) Maybe it's just me, as Stronghold Crusader is my favorite Stronghold game, and the one in which I don't get my a** handed so easily like in Stronghold 2. :D
  7. Wow, I see something great has happened in my absence. Congratulations to both of you, guys! You have indeed deserved it! This is really great to hear. I would also like to note: while the work of Crusader is obvious to all of us, others might not as easily notice Mathew's work for this community, BUT... Now and then when I need to remember something regarding Stronghold 2 for example, I have a quick look, and guess what. It is very likely that some of his articles would help me out. Let's make Stronghold great again! :D
  8. It is great to see that you've kept working on the mod. By trying to change some minor things in the game I've concluded how an outstanding amount of work is required for a complete mod such as this one.
  9. But still, this is a game from 2004, so 1GB RAM shouldn't actually be a problem... Unless playing in 1920x1080 resolutions changes things drastically. Maybe it does. When it comes to RAM, I feel like if 1GB of RAM is not enough for this game today, it is not because of the game, but because of the OS, antivirus, and many more programs and services ran on the particular PC. As for GPU's, mine has 512MB on my older PC, but I bought it as used, and I think it was a decent gaming GPU at the time it was released. But to be fair, I don't know what would make it better than some budget GPU of 512 from few years ago. I don't know much about these specs.
  10. I'll just jump in to say that we were discussing this same topic over here at Stronghold Heaven as well. Long story short, it is Stronghold 2 Steam Edition, meaning that it has wide screen resolutions as well. From experience with my older PC (which is somewhat more powerful than his PC) I suspect that changing resolution to 1024x768, and keeping medium or high graphic settings would work pretty fine on his machine.
  11. I was just going to ask for few screenshots. :) But I cannot see the picture of your castle. Those two missions are interesting, and I especially like those economically challenging missions where you have little to no resources around your keep. Pity that Wolf builds one of his stupid castles. I mean, it looks cool, but it is inefficient, and with few troops on each tower. If he Wolf was putting way more troops on those towers, then that would be one hell of a castle.
  12. Welcome to Stronghold Nation! Try with the 1024x768 resolution. Even after the HD version was released, this resolution has been working the best for me. Smoothly, and without any issues. It is impossible that Stronghold 1 works on 120 FPS. FPS in Stronghold 1 is always equal to the game speed, so when it is 40 (which is default), FPS is 40 as well. If you want FPS to be 60, game speed has to be 60 too, and game speed 90 is the maximum game speed. Regarding the GOG version. Try setting 1024x768 resolution in the game, and when you start the game make sure no other windows have been opened. Also, if you have two versions of the game installed on your PC, try uninstalling one of them, and reinstalling the other. Also, prior to reinstall move the Stronghold.cfg file elsewhere, you might want to have a new .cfg file, but don't delete it, back it up. If one of them is version 1.3 or lower, and the other 1.4 (which is the case with Steam version for sure), they you will certainly have issues. The 1.4 version changes the Stronghold.cfg file in a way that it makes it unusable by older versions.
  13. Yes, I get the same. Also, WYSIWYG editor also doesn't appear to work, I don't even see the text box. But with WYSIWYG turned off I can write messages without an issue. Using Mozilla Firefox on Windows 10.
  14. I see you've been having a lot of fun with these three missions. That's great to hear! :) Indeed, Caliph is a touch opponent. By the time most of us develop some way of fighting against each of the AI lords. For example, if I'm going against Caliph, I won't try to use almost all crossbowmen, because archers are better in taking down huge groups of their slaves trying to burn my farms, quarries, etc. So I mix them, although with many others I would just focus on crossbowmen. It would be fun if Firefly had managed to find a way to make an AI lord less predictable though! Less predictable in the way they attack, and less predictable in the way they defend, so that you wouldn't know whether they have pitch around, or inside, their castle walls, some traps here and there, etc. When it comes to taking down Caliph... Macemen and catapults are the answer. ;) And patience. Yes, in this mission they grow pretty strong, but in that case you can do either of the two options: besiege him, and start destroying his stuff from safe distance with catapults and trebuchets which would lead to him losing his gold, and which which by the time make him an easy target once he has open castle with a clear way for your macemen to run in; or to plan the attack carefully so that you open him up, rush into the castle with macemen, and take him down. In the later case you might want to have few groups of macemen which you would send one after the other, because you don't want all your troops to burn together. The first wave would burn, and the second groups would run in exactly after the pitch stops burning.
  15. Hey, guys! Black Friday is near, and as my girlfriend learned, it should be possible to buy an iPhone SE in the USA for about 100 bugs. Now, we're in Serbia of course, but her friend is in the states right now, and she could buy it for her, and bring it to Serbia when she travels here to visit her family. It is also important that the phone is carrier unlocked so it could work with SIM cards of carriers in Serbia. The reason for trying to do something like this is that technology here is more expensive in general, and not to mention not having such sales as in America. Now, we've had a look at some iPhone SE phones at Walmart, but from what I can tell, each of them is locked to some carrier, and it's of no use to us. Can you recommend some mall, or shop, where we could tell my girlfriends friend to order the phone from? Of course, the best would be if the phone could be ordered online, my girlfriend certainly doesn't want to talk her friend into all that crowd for a phone. EDIT: OK, so later during the day we just figured that it may not be possible to get the iPhone SE for 100 bugs, at least not? an unlocked one... And the fact that Walmart doesn't have an unlocked iPhone SE appeared to be a coincidence. But the question still holds. If somebody could recommend a reliable seller in the US who might offer a discount, that'd be great. :)
  16. I'm in the same boat, but I hope I'm going to get rid of one of my huge obligations this Thursday. :D Charles, so there's another mathematician among us now besides me! Glad to hear that! But I feel you made a better decision with focusing your talents in programming. Sometimes I think whether I should switch to programming too, although I've went pretty far with mathematics (in terms how much I studied)... I wish you all the luck, and do come buy now and then. ;)
  17. Those are great news. I am going to have a lot of work during this week, but hopefully I could give it a try next weekend. EDIT: That castle looks pretty interesting!
  18. Yes, Chris, I did notice that. I tried to open the map today when my mom left the game in the main menu. I just opened the map, so those transparent cliffs, and left. And then when she started a game on another map, the cliffs were transparent too, but then I just told her to restart the game, and the issue on that other map was gone. Yes, Mathew, that's exactly what she did I think! She tried to make a waterfall on a small cliff which was really close to the edge of the map, so I'd say she just made this waterfall too close to the edge, or perhaps even over the edge. Infuriating indeed, she was just finishing the map. Too bad that she was doing it for two hours straight without making a save on the way... :( By the way, this is slightly off topic... Converting maps in Stronghold 2 is very easy, right? I mean, I could convert a free build map into Kingmaker without any issue by simply choosing Kingmaker button above, and saving the map into another file? And there should be no issues? Same with scenario maps I guess. Thanks for helping, guys!
  19. I even tried opening the map on another PC... I guess the map file simply got corrupted. :( But I still haven't deleted the file, I will try deleting some cliffs, and restarting the game after saving the map.
  20. So my mom was making a map, and at some moment she just wanted to add one more waterfalls, and then suddenly (almost) all cliffs became transparent. They mostly appear black, but that's just because player can see through the map. It's actually transparent. Here are some examples below. This happened on version 1.5 Steam, but I think I have seen this before as well, so I hope this is a known issue. Do you, guys, know something about it, or can you suggest a way to revert it? I've tried deleting that latest waterfall she made, and putting those hills down, but that did not help. I'm also attaching the map file in case it could be helpful. (Lady C.)Petrovaradin.zip
  21. I've noticed the submissions have been approved. Thanks! :)
  22. I don't know the submission numbers, but you remove the first one, and approve the other two. :)
  23. I have submitted the kingmaker maps, and now I'll also submit the free build maps. But one thing is still puzzling me. What is this Great Britain map? I believe I heard before that they would update their old Great Britain map, but I'm not sure. The map from the game is actually called Great Britain and Ireland. Can somebody with the old version confirm that these two maps, the old one and the new, are different? And where do I put this map? To put it alone, or to update the first submission of kingmaker maps? EDIT: Chris, don't approve my first map pack, I'll do it again by submitting the Britain together with those four. I mean, if you agree with me that this is updated version of the map, and I think we have the same situation with some free build maps. SECOND EDIT: I have submitted the maps. In one pack are all kingmaker maps, and in the second one are the new or updated free build maps. So I think we should disregard my first submission.
  24. OK. And just in case I answered a wrong question. For those who had Stronghold 2 on Steam, the game just updated itself to the newer version, which is Steam Edition. I didn't buy Stronghold 2 SE separately, I have the Stronghold Collection.
