Having multiple anti viruses on your PC does not benefit you in the way you think they would - they tend to conflict with each other. This explains a bit more, note that this is only one paragraph from three. Source: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/186533/is-it-bad-to-run-multiple-antivirus-programs/?p=1046121 Viruses are very explicit in what they do; the whole purpose of a virus is to destroy things on your computer and cause damage. Therefore, they're very easy to notice. Malware is what you should be concerned about. Malware is the main thing that you get on your PC. When people say "I've got a virus on my PC", nine times out of ten, it's malware. Malware is much more sly than Viruses, it tends to do things so that the user won't notice them. It depends. And it's very hard to tell. A site does not often jump out saying "Hey, I'm a malicious site" to you. But it isn't just malware - it's whether the site itself is vulnerable to SQL Injection. It's hard to explain without getting complicated, but essentially, data is stored in a database. To get data from that database, you need to use SQL queries. Some sites that don't validate what the user posts to them correctly are susceptible to this because the queries can be modified by an attacker (don't ask how, it gets pretty complex). If this is the case, then all the information in the database (such as names, addresses, emails, phone numbers.etc) will be available to the attacker. Lord Vetka's reply is spot on here, using PayPal is great because it doesn't mean that you have to give your details to every company you buy from, the transaction is sent through PayPal. MSE is by far not the worst, but it's certainly not the best. It's fairly average I'd say actually. I really think MalwareBytesPro is probably the best kind of thing for that - it even picked up stuff in my registry that security essentials (or windows defender as it's known in Windows 8) missed. I pay nothing. Everything I use is free (or at least a free version, such as MalwareBytesPro) I find that free stuff is often just as good or better than commercial software.

Holiday = Vacation - or at least in UK talk ;)

Indeed! Enjoy your holiday. Are you staying somewhere local or going abroad?

If it's not a skirmish map, have you allowed the use of walls?

Actually my game arrived yesterday :D I haven't really looked into the files yet but that was one of the first ones I came across earlier. Do bear in mind it's likely to not be readable information (i.e. as in "Failed loading game".) It will likely be something like:

I don't know about fixing the crashes (as I don't know what is responsible for it) but you can set SHC2 to auto save, just like SH3. Head to the: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Stronghold Crusader 2\assets folder and open the file "config.xml" in a text editor (i.e. Notepad). Find: and replace the numbers next to the equal sign with what you need. Interval is how often (in seconds) the game will auto save and max_files is how many saves the game will allow. The following example will save the game automatically every five minutes, and allow a total of 6 saves at any one time before it over writes: You can also set some debugging information for when the game does crash in this file as well, which will give you a bit more info on what isn't working or going wrong. To do this, find: and replace with: This may also help. Find: replace with: The dump file created when the game crashes is located in the following directory: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_Crusader2.exe Thanks to @Nigel for finding the directory!

Indeed. ;) A battle well won Mathew.

The OP was uploading a RAR file, I've given him instructions on how to create a zip archive and am waiting for him to reply back to me via email. There are no other technical issue with uploading/editing files as they've all been fixed a few days back.
-
Actually Mathew, it's still linking to your image rather than the thread. :/
-
5 more days to get your signature completed everyone! Remember that the image must link to this thread and you must post your entry here also.
-
I've split the thread into site questions/support. Here is the link: http://forums.stronghold-nation.com/topic/313-unable-to-submit-file/ The only reason I didn't earlier is because I thought @denn1s33 may have not understood where the post had been moved to and wanted to try and get the issue sorted first.
-
I've replied to you through email.
-
Can you attach the file you are attempting to upload in this thread for me to take a look? You go to "post reply" (under my post) and then under the space to type your message there is space for the attachment to be uploaded.
-
Hi @denn1s33, Sorry for the problems you've been having. You are uploading the file inside a zip archive aren't you? Can you attach it here in the thread for me so I can take a look? EDIT: I've promoted you to a member, you should be able to attach files to your forum posts now.

If you only want staff to view your email, then you should add an "admin note" in: your profile -> essentials But I don't really think it's worth it, I may add it in elsewhere at some point but it's certainly not at the top of the list right now. Do also note that you can use the PM to contact users about other email addresses and if you dign up with email X, you have to be prepared that you will liekly be contacted through it. You can also change your email at any time: profile -> essentials -> change email

Yeah, I'm using a partition for each. Though 8 will need the most, I'll give Vista just over what it needs, especially if I'm going to be playing Crusader on it (or attempt installing it). Otherwise I'd just use it for backups so it wouldn't need loads of space. But I do admit with Windows 8 you miss the interface of Windows 7 & Vista, I'm looking forward to getting animated backgrounds again! In total I have 451 GB on my PC, 287 is used on 8 (but my backup of 77.9 GB is currently transferring over) so I'll probably give Vista 100 GB, maybe more or less depending on what the drivers need. He's already downloaded the correct drivers for my PC so it shouldn't be too hard. I would rather have 7 but I installed 7 over Vista on my old laptop and I have a spare Vista key, so...

Lord Vekta: do you want to do a joined map project?
Lord_Chris replied to Nigel's topic in Stronghold Crusader 2
Yes, I never thought of it in that way, I'll leave it up to you. :) Good luck on your project, and apologies to @Nigel for my misunderstanding! -
I've got to be honest, I honestly don't really know, it's my friend who knows all that stuff. I'm much more software oriented than hardware, hence why he's helping me with it. The main problem I'll have is getting the resource usage right - Windows 8 is a lot bigger than previous operating systems because it's nearly all colours, and they don't compress.

"new items" tag missing at downloads section
Lord_Chris replied to EaglePrince's topic in Site Questions and Support
Yes, these are only some of the updates, I'm also removing the user subscriptions (firstly, who actually uses them?) and the favourites and replacing it with download section subscriptions (when a new file is approved for download section X, you'll get an email if you want) and the same for files, the equivalent of topics here on the forum. On the forum, you can scroll down the page and click the "subscribe" link to be emailed new replies to that topic - the exact same thing will be available in the downloads section for files in a few days. I'll post a proper announcement out soon about the status, I've been updating a lot lately, including the gallery! -
"new items" tag missing at downloads section
Lord_Chris replied to EaglePrince's topic in Site Questions and Support
I believe it's been added in (along with avatars and other stuff from the forum) but the new items tag hasn't been tested yet, whereas everything else has been. Here is an example, it just happens to be Lord Vetka's latest file: http://www.stronghold-nation.com/downloads/file/175-admindle/ -
Lord Vekta: do you want to do a joined map project?
Lord_Chris replied to Nigel's topic in Stronghold Crusader 2
Personal discussion/conversations should really be held over the PM (unless it was a general question for everyone and I misunderstood?). I'll leave the thread open this time, but you know for future reference :) -
Regarding what is/isn't acceptable for posting, the site rules pretty much sum it up for you: http://forums.stronghold-nation.com/rules/
-
Thanks for letting us know the problem is fixed, but please don't add new replies just stating things like "last post edited with reply" as it's a fairly pointless message. Double posting is acceptable providing several hours have passed so you should be fine to add that as a new message.
