Welcome to Stronghold Nation, Achilleslastand, glad to see another old Stronghold player came here. By the way, if you have some time during this weekend we could make a gaming event, so you could meed some of us on battlefield. We could play Crusader if you want? Of course, we can fight one against the other, or we can fight side by side against AI lords giving them huge advantage.

Can't uninstall Crusader 1.2-1.3HD
EaglePrince replied to Lord Vetka's topic in Stronghold Crusader & Crusader Extreme
I'm sorry to bother you, but since PCDania left us, I hope we could figure it out by ourselves. Did you try patching Extreme as well? Also, I hope I'm gonna find out where can I find some uninstall file on my PC, so I could send it to you. Also, even if you "get stuck with Extreme HD", that would be no problem, as I would patch my Extreme as well, and we would still be able to play our games. -
You experience with webcams and microphones
EaglePrince replied to EaglePrince's topic in The Open Castle Inn
I've solved it in a way. :) Well, the thing it there was no problem. The thing is that the two PC's I was testing Skype calls with are close to each other, and speakers of the second one are close to the microphone (which is integrated inside the camera) of the first one. This was causing interference I guess, that that is why I was hearing that sound after I would cough or something. The sound was gone when I plugged in a headset to the other PC instead of speakers, and than the noise was gone. So, this sound shouldn't appear during any other call - at least not from my side. -
Hi, I have recently bought a webcam with an integrated microphone. I have tried making a video call with someone, and he wasn't able to see me, while I was able to see him. Still, I hope this will get fixed next time, as I called myself as well, and I did see myself on the other computer. Another thing is bothering me right now though... Whenever I try making a test video call I hear some sound, like creaking... Also, it doesn't show up by itself, it shows after I start speaking for example, or especially if I cough. It would appear after that. I also noticed - if I mute the microphone, the noise would disappear. Also, it happens almost as soon as I would start talking. Still, it wasn't frequent while talking to that person, it was happening during my test calls to myself. Do you have any experiences with those webcams with integrated microphone? Have you faced such issues with Skype lately?

Great! Thanks, Chris! :)

There are two sub-cases here: 1. I build those carts in advance - I bring them, and set an ambush. That would be fair in my opinion; 2. I see your army marshes, I build a siege camp as close to your army as possible and instantly train 24 burning carts to send them on your troops to set them on fire. I think this would be taking advantage of the game that let us build 24 burning carts instantly in front of your troops. 3. Sending burning carts on enemy castle is fine by me, as it is realistic. We could only limit number of those carts though. I like this proposal.

Can't uninstall Crusader 1.2-1.3HD
EaglePrince replied to Lord Vetka's topic in Stronghold Crusader & Crusader Extreme
I think we all have only uninstall for Extreme. Hopefully it would remove Crusader and Extreme at once, after what you would be able to install Stronghold Crusader Extreme again (along with Stronghold Crusader 1.2). ADDITION: I tried to recreate the problem by installing Stronghold Crusader HD, and not installing Extreme HD. In other words I applied HD patch only to Crusader. Unfortunately I didn't make it to recreate the problem. I was able to uninstall Crusader and Extreme with no difficulties, although there was one difference though - in "Uninstall a program" I had "Stronghold Crusader HD", not "Stronghold Crusader Extreme". Still, this should be solvable by clean install I think. I do have another suggestion. I'm guessing that this is being caused by some problem while installing HD patch. Did you try to run Crusader HD patch again - this time it might add what it didn't add last time by some mistake or something. -
Thanks, Mathew! :)

Well, I agree with Vetka, but I only don't want someone to spend his time making this code of honor, since almost any player that want's to play for fun and wants to play a fair game would obey that code anyway (not even knowing about it). I guess it would be enough to add "no intentional using many of burning charts against army", and we could also add "no intentional catapult aiming on troops"? In that case, if someone burns an army inside a burning village or inside a burning town - that wouldn't be wrong because the attacker was trying to burn the city, and there is nothing wrong with that. Similar with catapults. Perhaps it would be simpler to add those two among the rules, but I will let you decide that. :)

Can't uninstall Crusader 1.2-1.3HD
EaglePrince replied to Lord Vetka's topic in Stronghold Crusader & Crusader Extreme
Did you try to insert the disc and select "Uninstall" from the autorun? Also, if you run setup.exe from the disc, it should start uninstalling process. It would ask you if you are sure you want to uninstall the game first. -
Can't uninstall Crusader 1.2-1.3HD
EaglePrince replied to Lord Vetka's topic in Stronghold Crusader & Crusader Extreme
Maybe you need to patch Extreme first to HD version? Maybe than you would get an option to uninstall Crusader? I have Crusader and Extreme both non-HD and I have only one option in Add remove programs: Stronghold Crusader Extreme. Maybe having different versions of the game "confuses" the system. Also, I am going to have a look in my Crusader installation folder, to see if I can find the uninstall file. -
Sure, I will PM you about that matter today I hope. Yes, I did know that it is possible in Stronghold 2, but I wasn't sure that this option is available in Stronghold 3, as I know it is not present in Crusader 2. Still, I hope it is possible in map editor (to change the angle of the view), and if it possible there, it could be used for making some nice signatures. Thanks, Chris! From now on I think I could start helping other make some nice signatures - I hope those templates will help other make cool looking banners. :)

I saw it is something that is possible to do, and no mod is needed. I found the answer at Stronghold Heaven in this tread. So it is possible but it would cause some performance issues.

That's right, and that is not just any building... Those are three stockpiles which cannot be destroyed by any mean, and an armory which cannot be destroyed by melee troops. I don't know what should be the number of burning charts, but perhaps we could leave it as it is for now, until Bradley sees this. Maybe he has a better suggestion. For now, I can say that none of you were doing the same thing as this opponent of mine, so we could leave it as it is - as long as we try to play fair, we shall not be doing this. That is my impression at least. I still have feeling like you didn't understand what I wanted to say, so I will give an example. :) In our first Stronghold 2 multiplayer game (when we fought 1v1) you were attacking me with burning charts, but you were sending them only on my buildings which is fine. Now, if I used those charts to defend myself from your attacks, that wouldn't be right. You train about 40 knights, and I send burning charts onto them. This way I give very little resources for the charts, but you lose way much. On the other hand, if your knights are mounted, than you could escape from my charts, but I don't think that should be the case. If your knights are not mounted then they stand no chance - I will easily put them all to fire. I could also say that this opponent was also attacking my swordsmen with catapults - swordsmen are slow, and my swordsmen army was devastated. On the other hand not using catapults would make the game boring maybe. My point is that those should not be rules perhaps - we could look at those as at our code of honor. Unless you disagree with me about this matter, of course. :)

Hi, I saw that in Stronghold 3 one is limited to 125 buildings only, which is very small number considering that gatehouses, towers, etc. are counted there as well. Is there a way to enlarge that number? Is there some modification, or something? Also, if this game was possible to become unstable with more buildings, I guess enlarging that number to at least 175 could be enough, and that it wouldn't make any harm.
-
I agree that there is nothing unfair about burning charts themselves. But my opponent was using them in large numbers against my troops - not against my buildings. For example, I would send my men to attack him, and than he would just build a siege camp relatively close to my men, and make large number of burning charts. Then he would send those on my man and burn entire area around them, even though there was nothing to be burned - only some green grass. :what: This is something that none of you guys did to me in our multiplayer games. Also, I cannot say this is much unfair, as others are able to do the same, but this is just not natural. I could demonstrate you in some multiplayer game, or I could post a screenshot. The thing is that one is able to build a siege camp, and to make up to 24 burning charts and send those on enemy troops. Perhaps that wouldn't be such a problem if one wouldn't be able to make 24 burning charts away from his castle. There is also one more thing that this guy was doing. He was buildings three stockpiles and an armory around villages campfire, and he was putting a knight inside. This way he was securing his village, so one wouldn't be able to reach the knight easily, kill him, and take over the village. Again - there is nothing unfair when someone uses those because this is not cheating - other can do the same as well, but in my opinion we should not be doing those things. Just like I don't like using portable shields in Stronghold Crusader because it provides too much protection - even more protection that tower with a hoarding. :what: I'd also like to say that it was a good fight, and it was quite interesting. Still, I ended that game in one suicidal attack because the opponent was way stronger (his nickname is RAID, by the way), and he wasn't attacking me at all. Also, it was getting pretty late. Only I was attacking him, but he was like a cat playing with a mouse. :D If he wanted, he would have killed me easily inside my own castle as well.

I have recently played a game, and I have faced some stuff which might be added to our rules. The most important one - using burning charts to make fire in some area around enemy army, thus burning them. I believe this could be unpleasant to the opponent which expects a fierce fight - they want to die from swords, not from burning charts which showed up almost from nowhere. :)

Hmm, I like your idea! :D
-
Hmm, option to banish criminals... That is a nice idea indeed. :) Although my favorite method was to behead the criminal - no one steals my food and gold. :D

Yes, that's how I got it as well. :)

Well, speaking of Steam - I do have some feeling that they have achieved what they wanted. Many games are not possible to play if they are on Steam, and if one doesn't own an original copy. It is harder now than before Steam... I mean, I've always believed that one has to own an original copy to play it, but I recently found out I was wrong, and I was really surprised. Still, they are doing way more than protecting themselves. Maybe I'm paranoid about that at this moment, but I feel really uncomfortable when buying games now, as I have feeling that I am renting them only (if the game is on Steam). Even though you payed the game, you have to obey some rules that had made up, and I cannot do with my game what I want... (of course - I don't mean about distributing the game or something, I'm speaking about some other banal stuff) Also, there is another thing - now one is able to get the game he wants no matter if the game is popular in his country or not. One doesn't have to search for the game he loves. What I just wrote could seam a bit confusing - on one hand I defend Steam, and on the other hand, I say what they do is wrong. My feeling are somewhat mixed right now, but I hope this would sum up how I feel right now: it is a nice idea to have a service to get some game that is harder to get in Store, but I don't like Steams ways. For example, I made a Steam account to write some friendly posts their at their discussions, and after some short time I became unable to write in any specific game discussions. What they want from me is to buy a game on Steam, or to link a game I own to Steam. They say how that is because of spamming, but we all know that is not the only way to prevent spam. Besides that, there are some stupid topics at Steam Discussions, and I have noticed that there are some members who start some topics which could offend someone, but who cares - they gave the money. Also, I must say that I am not so certain if I am right about everything I told about Steam, but that is how I feel.

Thanks, Nigel, I am glad you like my signature. :) By the way, some time ago I came to an idea of making a pattern for making Stronghold Nation banners. I would make it for GIMP as it is free. The idea would be for all of us to be able to have some nice signatures, and all the signatures would have something in common. We could have the same frame for example. So, if that would be the case, I would make the frame, and you would be able to make a screenshot (from Stronghold 2, Stronghold Legends, Stronghold 3, or Stronghold Crusader 2), and put it behind the frame; and you would also be able easily to put your username in your desired font. I could make a small inscription "Stronghold Nation" at some part of it. Of course, in that case you would provide you two frames - one with the inscription, and one without it. You would be able to use it on other forums as well, such as Stronghold Crusader 2 forum. Also, is it possible to freely rotate camera in all possible directions at least in map editor? I know there is no free camera mod while playing the game, but is it possible at least in map editor? It would be really nice if they made this possible like they did in Stronghold 2 - that is a nice option for making some nice screenshots of our army, castles, landscapes, etc... even videos! Now when I mentioned it - is there free camera mod in Stronghold Legends and Stronghold 3? It seems it is possible by pressing ALT+"F". I found that info at Firefly Worlds forum.

Stronghold 3 - current state: performance and multiplayer
EaglePrince replied to EaglePrince's topic in Stronghold 3
"Well you would have to persuade me to install it first, then we will see if I even want to play it, and lets see if there would be some time to play online, I would rather play more of the Extreme maps we played." So it would be harder than I thought... :) Just kidding now, but I do admit that I don't expect Stronghold 3 to be as much interesting as it is the case with Crusader, or Crusader Extreme, games. :) Right now, I was thinking about Stronghold 3 only because I saw a chance to get a boxed version of Stronghold 3 for less than 10 euro in my town, and because I realized my newer PC should be able to handle Stronghold 3 and Stronghold Crusader as well. One is sure - I wouldn't be giving more than 10 euro for Stronghold 3 in any moment. Thanks for your advice, I will listen to you. I mean, at this moment I did become a little impatient about this, and at such moments it is a nice thing to have someone to slow you down a little. -
Stronghold 3 - current state: performance and multiplayer
EaglePrince replied to EaglePrince's topic in Stronghold 3
Well, you are right about that, right now everyone is more into Crusader 2 right now, and it is less likely to find some players to play Stronghold 3 with. I did notice that - the game was released on October 25, 2011, while the latest patch was released on May 11, 2012. That's a lot of time, and even if they did the good job with those patches, many of them had already lost their patience for the game, I guess. Still, I did read some comments about that latest patch - how Firefly gave the game up, while there were still some stuff to fix. "I would suggest trying the new SHC2 while everyone else is trying it out, SH3 will still be there and will more than likely get even cheaper." Wise words from Lord Vetka. :) Now when you say it like that, you are right, and I should get Crusader 2 first. Speaking of Stronghold 3 and my question about it - now I think it would be worth buying, only I should prepare myself for not being able to find some players for online game. On the other hand, I do have you guys - I believe I could persuade some of you to play it with me. :) -
Yeah! :D Although I have to admit - I wouldn't have noticed it if Chris didn't mention water flow. Also, I have to say that it doesn't have to be an error. There are some example in nature where river changes its direction, and start flowing in opposite direction of the sea. We have Niger river for example. It's source is pretty close to see, but across those mountains, so it flows into the desert, and after a while it comes back into Atlantic ocean. This river was really interesting to me, when I was a kid because of this. Also, Danube in Romania - it flows directly into the Black sea, then it turn left (to the north), and than it turn to the east again, thus reaching the Black sea. These things can be unpredictable indeed. Speaking of our situation - for all we know, it is possible that the see is in the south, the east, and the north as well - just after the edge of the map. :) If I can choose, I think it would be in the mood for a Stronghold 2 map, but I believe that Chris and I should share the prize, as I wouldn't notice it without him mentioning the water flow. :)
