  1. I noticed on the screenshot above, that you must have clicked on the "new posts" link on the index page - if you go directly to the forum instead does it still show mine?
  2. I actually disagree with that - I never make bread and in multiplayer I make about 20 thousand on gold (often more if Bradley doesn't kill me instantly  ). I mainly rely on wood. At the start of the game I set up ten to fifteen saw pits and then wait for them to collect loads of wood - I built other buildings that I need such as the food ones, I build a lot of stone quarries or iron mines depending what is available on the map, several ox tether for each one and get up a massive industry. What probably helps with all this, is that I only ever place one stockpile - never more; when that gets full, I simply sell goods from it (due to the large amount of saw pits normally wood, stone or iron) which give me a load of gold - I then sell any excess armour (normally I place several armourer's workshops on a map as the production is sooooo slow compared to other industrial buildings. Out of all the weapons, I believe it's armour which sells at the highest price. I also rely heavily on estates for gold; they not only provide honour but a steady supply of gold also. I also build buildings such as the jousting field and travelling fair which increase popularity (along with my food) and then set my taxes to high, sometimes higher. I use a variety of ways to get gold!
  3. What makes you so good on Stronghold Legends? How fast can you build up an army, and what do you do to create it that fast? What is your favourite strategy for taking out opponents?
  4. I often buy a load of cheap mercenaries (such as Arabian Swordsmen) and I sell things to get a lot of gold to pay for them. Another favourite trick of mine is buying mass horse archers, which get killed easily by other archers - but in number they're great. I'm sure EaglePrince remembers from multiplayer when I bought more and more and more horse archers and kept them in different groups (at least that was my intent) At times (such as when I'm under attack without many troops available) I panic and buy a lot of the cheaper troops - so the answer to this question is probably a yes for me. But only when I'm desperate. Or, a good tactic would be to send them in to get destroyed and then send some swordsmen in after who will survive. In all fairness though, they don't take many archers to kill them. When I was playing multiplayer once, A load of slaves came charging to my castle and tried to go behind my castle, and I placed three or four archers and they basically all got killed - it was by the snake though (I think)
  5. So you can see all threads before yours was created? (I have now created one in there)
  6. It is certainly a downer, and if only people could be trusted it could be used - but in today's age, you have to assume that every user would do no good if proper restrictions aren't in place - and from what I've seen so far, a lot of guests have attempted just that. But bbcode is easier than HTML for those people who have no knowledge, and because bbcode is more widespread it's easier to remember.
  7. You can view replies to your own topic if that's what you mean - but you can't (or shouldn't) be able to view other threads. Could you post another screenshot of the forum?
  8. You may use all forum bbcode site-wide (members area, downloads, downloads reviews & comments, forum). HTML is not allowed due to the security risk of allowing users to add HTML descriptions (such as the meta refresh tag which could redirect users to a malicious page - and that's just one example. With bbcode we can be sure that users are restricted and is a lot safer for guests and other users visiting the site. You can see more on the site faq here and the bbcode list is here of all the currently supported codes. We are trying to increase these, so if you have any suggestions please let us know :)
  9. Correct. There are no topics allowed in the forum "site links" and that is why that is protected, and the castle courthouse is a place for reporting issues such as spam, double posting.etc so you can only view your own threads in that forum (hence why it's protected) Hope that clears it up a bit. Create a test thread in there if you like & it helps to clarify a bit more, I won't warn you just this once ;)
  10. Last month, the winners were myself and Charles of Tours for our "Coat of Arms / Crest / or other decorative Heraldry" themed contest. We have deliberated upon the following theme: Stronghold Crusader or Stronghold Crusader 2 related We have chosen to clarify with the following: Oh, and if you are considering joining in, it wouldn't hurt to drop in a note so I hurry along those "last minute" sort of people! :) The contest will run until the 20th of August, and after this date the voting will begin. But do remember... the longer you have your signature posted, the more people will notice it! Basic Rules: http://forums.stronghold-nation.com/topic/94-announcing-signature-of-the-month/ ** Voting ** @Lord_Chris @EaglePrince
  11. Nice crests - very good variety there, thanks for sharing. :)
  12. Yeah, I have to say I agree with that - even though I do love those white witches - they are really powerful in number - too powerful... Added in main ^^
  13. Oops. Completely forgot about that. :) It's in now. The difference between using it & not would be so negligible it would be insignificant - it would be their connection to blame (i.e. bandwidth limits for example) Link: http://members.stronghold-nation.com/team-speak
  14. Good luck to anyone else who wants to enter! :)
  15. If you could play within Steam, then it's one of two things: A.) Steam is allowed through the firewall, thus meaning SH2 is. B.) SH2 or another needed program has been disallowed through some firewall on your PC Do you have more than one firewall on your windows 8? Since Steam can connect, it rules out any router issues, firewall issues (on windows xp) leaving windows 8 to blame. Did you connect through the same router when trying from windows xp? Try what I do in this topic on the firewall, and see if it helps at all.
  16. Hmm, I don't see anything unusual in that traceroute. All seems to be well. And since it's SH2 that you seem to be encountering issues with, it's obviously not related to GameRanger I would think. So if you host instead of joining, does it still occur? What is your username in Stronghold 2? Does it contain any alt codes (I.E. ?, ?, ?.etc)? One other question: Did you manually open stronghold 2 or did GameRanger open it? If GameRanger opened it then something is probably wrong with your internet connection (as it always goes straight into the lobby room on mine), you should contact your ISP and double check they allow you to play games online. I don't have SH2 with me now, but if someone else could open it and click the multiplayer option to see what message comes up that would be useful.
  17. That's fine, certainly no need to apologise about it ;)
  18. Actually, I meant cows being able to be thrown anywhere - I don't see what difference it makes for them to be thrown in castles and elsewhere on the map - unless you were referring to something else? This may be picky now, but I think it's getting too much - and at too many small things. I think catapults don't really make a difference - it's like limiting the amount of siege equipment or archers you can have - it all makes it so much harder to get anything done.
  19. It shouldn't need to come to that. I have Windows 8, and all is well. Though I can only advise you, don't reinstall your operating system with the exception of fatal errors on your machine. Trust me, it can bring up all kinds of problems, and resetting permissions (as well as many other factors) on your PC. Could you maybe post a screenshot of what happens in this thread? (or better, a link to a video somewhere) I have searched issues similar and found this thread: http://forums.macnn.com/77/gaming/75254/gameranger-connection-problems/ This appears to suggest it's a ISP issue, so try making sure you have the latest DNS info available from your internet service provider. Here is an excellent guide for that: http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/how-to/flush-dns-cache-in-windows.html And seen as you do not seem to be able to connect, maybe a traceroute will help. Could you type "tracert gameranger.com" in command prompt then give me a screenshot of the result? You are welcome to PM them to me if you don't want to make it visible in the thread. EDIT: Just realised you can't post links or use the PM until you make 5 posts. I've promoted you, you can now use those features.
  20. I like the all those rules, though I do think it would be better to not have a limit on the cows thrown by trebuchets.
  21. And since only two votes have been submitted, the contest is a draw! But seen as there is only one signature badge and you've won last month, I'll keep that this time. I'll send you a PM with a theme in mind, and we can decide on one together.
  22. Good luck you two, hope you have a great fight! :D
