Himmelsbrief

With origins dating to Rome (3rd Century AD), and widely ''accepted'' in Europe by the 12th Century AD, The Himmelsbrief was claimed to be a direct, written ''communication'' – from God. The Belief is that such ''directions'' are written by The Creator, and ''dropped from The Sky'', intended to be ''found'' by the person whom God intended. The ''contents'' of such ''Documents'' needed to be followed expressly. Not doing so, meant great misfortune (of some sorts). Seen by most as a form of Medieval Literature process, such ''Magical Letters'' were widely re-printed and given out (posted), as a means of instilling ''good Christian Faith''. The Western and Eastern Rite Churches did not officially recognize such ''indulgences'' and often assigned them the ''honor'' of being a form of Popular Piety, among The Laity. Many Scholars attribute Himmelsbrief as as early form of ''Urban Legend'', in this case – relating to the infamous ''Chain Letter''.
