So named by The Smith & Wesson Firearms Company , for being the “first” of their Revolvers to be made in The 20th Century, The “New Century” was also one of their first Handguns designed to chamber both The American .44 Caliber and English. 455 Round. It featured a heavy frame to stabilize the more powerful Round during recoil. It was also a Break Frame design to make reloading easier. This design was common in Europe (and possibly why The New Century did not quite catch on in The United States). The New Century Model fired 6-Pound and had a maximum range of 100-yards. It wad only manufactured between 1908 and 1915. The New Century was seen in heavy use in The British Army, sometimes being preferred to over The Webley Revolver.
