An Ancient Egyptian Funerary Text, dating to the 16th Century BC (New Kingdom) – ''The Book of Gates'' is often seen as a companion ''piece'' to ''The Book of The Dead''. The ''Gate Book'' is a detailed missive telling about ''how'' a Soul is judged and the ''journey'' it must undertake. The ''road'' to The Afterlife, involves a series of Gates (or passages). Each passage is Guarded by a particular Goddess. Part of the ''test'' for The Soul, involves not only recognizing The Goddess in question, but what ''attributes'' She bestows. Correct answers yield passage to the next Gate (and hopefully others). Failure leads to damnation in ''The Lake of Fire'' – so tormented by various Ancient Demons.
