Part of The Lizard (and Newt) Family, The Salamander has a long history in Heraldry. Seen in wide used from the 14th through 16th Centuries, one of the most famous if the one emblazoned on King Louis I of France's Arms. Often depicted in natural colors, they have many attributes. Some Healers and Doctors used them in The Middle Ages to convey “Healing”.
