The term ''Pankration'' was applied to a form of Ancient Grecian ''Combat Training'' which - by today's standards was akin to ''Mixed Martial Arts'' (MMA). It is first mentioned by Greek Historians in 648 BC, in relation to The Olympic Games. The ''fighting form'' involved boxing, wrestling, various holding techniques and several other grappling methods, taught to Greek Soldiers (close quarters combat). The style would be adopted into a Sport in Ancient Greek.
The rough translation of ''Pankration'' is to mean ''Power, Strength and Might''.
