The term Ordinary means the principle Charge (normally in a bold rectangular pattern), placed on the Shield Fess of a Coat of Arms. Ordinaries can be applied to any Linear shape. Ordinaries are also identified as “Honorables”. This term is meant to imply the it has “seniority” over any Blazon. There are 8 “Standard” Ordinary patterns most often employed.
