The mid-19th Century Korean ''Myeonje Baegab'' was a type of ''Body Armor'' developed as a means to protection again ''Modern'' firearms. Although firearms were known as used in Imperial Korea (sparcely), The Country encountered French colonization attempts in the 1860s. European weapons were far more advanced. As a result, the ''Myeonje'' was invented. Not using steel or iron plating, the rather ingenious method of using overlapping fiber ''sheets'' were used to a thickness of 3-inches. Cumbesome, The ''Body Armor'' was effectice (at distance). The first actual usage of The Myeonje was againt US Forces during The Korean Expedition of 1871. The only surviving ''Vest'' was captured by US Forces, who maintained in in a US Museum. it was returned to Korea in 2007.
