Seen in the 12th Century, The Otsuchi was primarily a War Hammer (Mallet). Used by both Elite and lower classes of soldiers, they could range from 4 to 6 feet in pole (wooden) length. The Mallets were made of heavy wood or bronze. The could range in weight from 10 to 15-pounds. Often they featured small brass protrusions (to enhance trauma). The Otsuchi was also very effective at battering in Castle doors and reinforced windows.
