The ''Haras'' was a form of specialized Arabic Personal Bodyguard - commonly used by Caliphs of The Abbasids Empire, between the 6th and 11th Centuries AD. They were all Male, and chosen by Rulers from Territories outside of The Empire. The reasoning was simple. Being well paid and cared for, this was not seen necessarily as a foundation for continued uncorrupted (bribed) service. If, it was thought, that a Hara was NOT related to any Tribe or Clan, they could be more easily ''molded'' to The Caliph's honor and trust. Haras live in quarters very close to The Caliph (within a Royal Palace). They provided protection whenever The Ruler went to prayers or had to venture outside among His people. Haras served in both Infantry and Cavalry capacities. They were typically armed with Sword, Lance and Mace. They wore uniforms typically found in The Caliph's Army (having no specialized wardrode). In all cases, Haras were never recorded as having been disloyal to a Caliph, with many well known assassination attempts being put down. Haras were also tasked with torturing Assassins caught, and developed quite a reputation as being ''ruthless''.
