The next evolutionary development of the Bascinet Helmet, the "Great" version incorporated "combat lessons" to improve protection of the Wearer. Made of steel composite, unlike it's predecessor, it was more cylindrical in appearance. Designed to encompass the entirely of the head as well as neck, the Great Bascinet featured a longer, flattened facial visor. This was one of the first attempts at non-Mail protection.  Seen in the 14th Century, some versions began to incorporate a flanged bottom skirt to better integrate with the Breastplate.
