Perhaps one of the more popular and reliable weapons adopted by The Boer Army, The Mauser Model 1893-95 used a 57mm ''Bottleneck'' Brass Shell with a Lead Bullet. As many as 40,000 such Models (and their Carbine Version), were purchased by the various Boer Republics for use in The 2nd Boer War.
The attached 5-round Ammunition Clip was staggered, which allowed for a smooth feed without jamming. While the automatic feed methods was still years away, The Mauser had a hand operated Bolt System to chamber each round. The Model 1893-95 weighed 8-pounds with a maximum effective range of 1,300-yards. The Mauser Class were so popular and, if well maintain – long lasting, that Versions were still in use during The Spanish Civil War of 1936.
