As we have seen, Oliver Cromwell - one time High Lord Protector of the short lived English Commonwealth, developed and used many flag and standards to identify The Commonwealth. He also "inherited" The Royal Navy. Important to have his new Nation recognized on The High Seas, he developed a Naval Ensign for The Commonwealth Navy. He also inadvertently designed the future National Colors of a later United Kingdom. The Naval Ensign was a Blue and White Dual Field (split). The White Field bore The Red Cross of St. George and The Blue Field The Irish Harp.
