Actually having several different meaning throughout Ancient Roman History - the term ''Editor'' first developed as a result of Rome's Gladatorial Games Culture. While a ''Lanestra'' (Gladiator Owner and Trainer) was seen as a ''lowly'' Class of Citizen (but necessary) - an ''Editor'' was vastly more superior. It was the job of The Editor to ''promote and manage'' various Gladiator ''spectacles'' ranging from ''fighting men'' to Animal ''Contests'' - even massive reeinactments of famous Roman Victories in Battles long past. Editors, while not Patricians (Upper Class Citizens), they were high Classed Equites. Most often, Editors sought out Patricians for Patronage. Once given (in mild secrecy), it was none the less The Patron who recieved great praise from The Senate or even Emperor for staging ''great blood matches''. Akin to today's Sports position of ''Promoter'', some Editors also purchased their own Gladiator Schools - but hired Lanestri to run it (in their names), to protect their ''reputations''.
