The use of The Cross in Heraldry, can mean a Religious affiliation. This can be through support or by providing Clergy to The Church. It was also a popular symbol among Knights either joining The Crusade (or Military Order). The Cross can be placed in the center - “The Honor” of The Shield, or in a smaller Canton. It is never Debruised (covered). There were 15 Cross variations used on Shields and Coats of Arms. Coloring was either Gold, Black or Red (traditionally) – with variances of tincture given to certain Military Orders.
