Raised in The State of Alabama in support of The Confederacy during The American Civil War of 1861-1865, The Legion was commanded by Henry Hillard. It was composed of (3) Battalions of Infantry, (1) of Cavalry and (1) of Artillery. It mustered 1,000 Officers and Men. Fighting mostly in The Western Theater of The War, The Legion lost 50% of it's number at The Battle of Chickamagua (1863), when it suffered terrible losses against Federals Forces. Survivors were absorbed into other Alabama Infantry Units.
The Legion was identified by a Blue Field with a White Saltire which covered the entirety of The Flag. The Cross covered a circular arrangement of (12) White Stars, each representing a Confederate State.
