The ''Cartwheel Hat'' was a very popular form of feminine head apparel - dating to around 1914 - Worldwide. It's style was a flattened or slightly rounded Crown with an over-extended Brim. This gave a ''shading'' effect to the face. Worn traditionally to the side (left or right and at a pitch, upward or downward), material was depending on the ''wealth'' of it's Wearer. From fine silks to simple canvas, the initial Brim design was fitted to a metal wire frame and covered. Stitching could be elaborate to simple as well. Most Women wore The Cartwheel for semi to ful formal events. By the 1930's, the style fell out of ''vogue'', but could still be seen in usage. Many variations on The Cartwheel can be found, especially in Great Britain, and more so as part of The National Horse Races at Ascot. In fact, The Cartwheel Hat is still a focal point of ''fine'' Women's fashion even today.
