Seen in the 19th Century, The Bergantina was a popular coastal defense vessel. Featuring 2 to 3 Masts, they could hold 25 cannon of various poundage. Crewing 120 men, they were ideal for transporting Slaves from West Africa to The Caribbean (safe due to their guns and overall speed). Bergantina's were around 40 to 50 feet long and featured deep cargo holds. They were also around 800-1,000 tons displaced and stool 27 feet high. This class of Ship was also popular with late Era Pirates, Privateers and of course, Smugglers. Due to their draught, they could maneuver close to shore and exploit many shallow inlets.
