By Crusader1307

The image of a Battering Ram (a Siege instrument shown as a long wooden log with a metal Ram's Head), was common in the early and mid Middle Ages. It could be awarded to those who participated in a Siege (or even having survived one!). Many Knights had the image conferred upon their Arms. The use died out with the advent of Gunpowder.
