Philip II (Spain), died today. Noted for starting Spain's “Golden Age”, Philip saw Spanish Colonies established throughout the known World (as far as The Philippine Islands in The Pacific Ocean – also named for him). The term “The Empire on which The Sun Never Sets” was coined during his reign. Philip was also responsible for The Spanish Armada (to be used against England for it's invasion). This event failed. He died at 71.
To Augment a Shield or Arms, means to add another form of symbolism to it – after winning or earning some honor or achievement (usually by a Ruler). The term is sometimes confused with a “Grant of Arms”.
