One of the foremost Bull Deities in Ancient Egyptian Religions, Apis may go back as far as the 2nd Century B.C. Portrayed as a Bull, Apis was associated with the divinity of a King (or Pharaoh). In some Funerary Icons, Apis is shown carrying a deceased Ruler strapped to his back (as he takes them to The Underworld for Judgment). A Lunar Disk (or representation of The Moon) was always placed between the Gods horns . Special Bulls were selected by Priests for Ceremonies involving Apis Worship. These Apis Bulls would be ritually slaughtered and their blood was collected in a specially designed container. They were then carefully mummified. Apis worship extended until the 26th Dynasty.
