Raised in 1776, the Flag of this Mounted Continental Regiment had a “love story” attached to it. Commanded by Colonel James Elliot (and related to General George Washington), he went to see his wife before the Regiment was to be deployed. His wife stated that “he” should cover his “flag” with glory. To which, the ashamed Colonel stated that the Regiment had NO flag. His wife hastily grabbed her Red drapes and “constructed” their Colors. Dark Red in it's entirety, she stitched in the center a large outline of a Human heart. Col. Elliot did in fact earn “glory” for his Regiment -and it was aid he brought the flag back to her (as such proof).
