Zashiki Warashi

Child-Spirits are very common in many Countries mythos. Japan is no different. This Class of Ghost is called The Zashiki-Warashi. They have no particular reason to return as Spirits, but they often are thought to be Adults who return in a spiritual state to a younger self. Mostly benevolent, some Warashi can be quite mean and evil, capitalizing on their appearance to scare and torment others. They can appear "normal" or quite terrifying in visage. Child Spirits are another popular Japanese Literary component in their Ghost Stories and Horror Films. These types of Spirits are actually quite old in their Culture, with tales going back many Centuries.
