From Japan, Yama-Uba is possibly a Hag or Witch legend (from Feudal times). Saif to live only in the mountain ranges of Mt. Nabekura (near Honshu), she is seen as both an Old Woman and a young beautiful one. She likes to pretend to be a stranded soul needing help (using whichever disguise is best suited). Upon helping her, her victims are pushed (or fall) to their death upon which time Yama-Uba begins to feed on the corpse! It is said that Yama-Uba will not kill children. Other versions of her story state that IF a person feeds Yama-Uba, she will not harm them. It was tradition for many centuries to ALWAYS carry extra food with one if they were going into the Nabekura Mountains.
