These were ancient Nepalese (India) Demons, known for their large, fanged mouths and horns. Said to live in a mythical (and unseen) Kingdom called Kamrup - they were Guardians of Grain and of Rain. As long as a Farmer made the appropriate offerings of food from their harvests, The Yaksas would continue to bless one's crop. However, if one ignores this tradition, The Yaksas will come and - using their great mouths - gobble up all of one's crops! Colorful statues of The Yaksas can still be seen today in many parts of Nepal.
