In Mayan (Mesoamerican) Mythology, ‘’Xibalba’’ was the name given to The Underworld and Afterlife. It was translated into English to mean ‘’Place of Fright’’. (12) ‘’Death Deities’’ ruled together in Xibalba. The realm was both a place of torment and pleasure (depending on the kind of life One had). However, Spirits lived in perpetual twilight (mostly devoid of light). Light was associated with Life – which was something Spirits were no longer associated with. Some later Mayan Beliefs state that Xibalba was ‘’destroyed’’ by The Gods, thus allowing ALL ‘’Good Souls’’ to achieve a higher level existence.
