Wolves and their subsequent attacks'' were seen as a real issue to many in The Middle Ages. Farmers and Livestock Owners spend great resources in ridding or stemming the tide of such attacks by Wolf Packs in the rural Countryside. As we have seen, many superstitions regarding Wolves developed out from such attacks and infestations. By the 16th Century, a Cottage Industry developed I'm many Countries headed by Persons calling themselves Wolfssegen . These Professionals promised that Wolf attacks and infestations by Packs could be removed by the purchasing and use of powerful Talismen. Coupled with forbidden Spells and incantations especially designed to remove Wolves by magic. They were sometimes referred to as Wolf Charmers . It was The Wolfssegen who were generally credited with the association of using Silver against Werewolf Attacks''. Naturally, much of The Wolfssegen practice was condemned as heresy, and often they were persecuted at first by Royalty and later by The Church. However, much of their practices remained in some Cultures for many generations.
