A variation of The ''Breast Ripper'', ''Spanish Tickler'' and perhaps The Turcas – The ''Witches Spider'' was a horrible Spanish and French Torture device from the 15th Century. Used to illicit a ''Confession of Witchery'', it was a pronged device which could open and close via hand pressure. Made of iron or steel, The ''Spider'' had pronged extensions which ballooned outward and down – resembling a ''hanging'' arachnid (spider). The ''legs'' of The Spider was where the actual pain came from. Not sharpened to a razor piercing point, they were sharpened enough to slowly pierce into flesh (depending on the force applied). Placed on the breast, flanks (abdomen) and more effectively the thigh – the applied pain was excruciating and could be made to last several hours. Once a ''Confession'' was made, the pain ended – of course. It also meant the victim was headed off to ''other'' methods of more ''permanent pain'' or rather - death!
