Indicative to Northern England, and dating to the 13th Century (until the 18th Century), The Witch Post was seen as an important fixture to the protection of one's Home. Made of hand-carved Oak, these 6-foot Posts were carved with various symbols related to Hexes and Magic. The Post was incorporated into The Fireplace of the Home. This was important. Placement here ensured that no Witch could enter through one's Chimney and into one's Home. Often, an early warning system was attached known as a Witch Ball. Other methods used were small bells which would jingle if a Witch was near or attempting to enter. With the advent of Christianity, Witch Posts still were used. The addition of carved Crosses were added to increase the Post's power .
