A Myth going back to Medieval Germany, The Wiederganger were ''Evil Spirits'', who inhabited dead bodies. Reanimated, these ''Walking Dead'' were among the earliest examples of Zombies. Some Regions cited that these ''Living Corpses'' were in fact NOT Spirits, but under control of powerful Wizards. The Wiederganger mythos is featured in many Nordic tales as well. Most origins state that they are the Souls of those who received some form of injustice in life, and (in death) ''seek revenge''. Some also cite that American Writer Washington Irving was influenced by a tale of The Wiederganger when he wrote ''The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'' in 1820.
