From Slavic origins, ‘’Vuk’’ is a term which translates to ‘’Wolf’’. However, not just ANY kind of Wolf – but a Demonic or Cursed Spirit Animal. The Legend goes back to the 15th Century, and centers around certain Women who could never deliver children into Life. These infants either miscarried or were still born. If this happened more that several times, mot assumed that the Woman was ‘’cursed by God’’ and ‘’unable to bring forth life’’. This was further linked to the fact that the Woman in question was either a Witch, or associated with such. Later, when such a Woman died, Her Soul was damned. Unable to seek the ’’joys of Heaven’’ or ‘’Pains of Hell’’, She was ‘’reborn’’ as a Vuk. These snarling Wolf-like Creatures lurked in woods and forests looking for (you guessed it) – Children to eat. Still later, the term would be used as a form of insult.
