In Mayan Mythology – ‘’Voltan’’ was an ‘’Earth Deity’’ that was ‘’summoned’’ by drum, during Ceremonies and rituals. ‘’Living’’ as Spirit inside such an instrument, Voltan was seen as a necessary tool in invoking ANY God or Goddess. If a Drummer (Human), was unskilled – then Voltan would not ‘’come’’. As such, with death being a penalty for ‘’offending The Gods’’ – only One who was so ‘’blessed’’ to play, was so employed.
