A Hindu myth of Ancient origins, The Vetala were Evil, disembodied Spirits (which were never Human), that take physical possession of a Corpse. Regardless of the state of decomposition (which stops at that point upon possession), The Vetala can now have full motion and control. Vetala's further modify the Corpse with the addition of Bat-like wings, which give it faster mobility. The Vertala were said to roam the Land in search of Human victims by which to drink their blood. If their Corpse is damaged, they can leave it for another. Shaman are able to invoke various spells and rituals to keep The Vertala from entering a Corpse. In lieu of this, sometimes Families would cut off the head of the deceased before burial. It is said that regardless of the corpses condition, it must be ''complete'' for the Vertala Spirit to inhabit.
