 Of Norse Myth, The Valkyries have undergone such a transformation since their initial origin , it is often difficult to determine the what is and What s not . They were originally female Demons (and quite hideous in appearance. Considered dark Angels of Death , they soared over battlefields to gather only those heroic souls (to be transported under their care to Odin in Valhalla). Blood-thirsty and unrelenting, they would often join in a battle. As Norse Myth became romanticized, The Valkyrie's were given a more gentile and Maiden-like visage. Identified as being Odin's (King of The Gods) - Shield Maidens , they were made to be more mortal with regards to being able to fall in love (especially with Mortal men.) Identified by their plumage worn with their armor, if their identity as a Valkyrie was established when they were NOT wearing them, they would be trapped on Earth. Some Valkyrie's were seen as Servants in Valhalla offering ale and wine to in-coming new arrivals. It was also said that the glint of their armor was the reason the Sun shined so brightly , when rising.
