Part of the “Genesis” of The Arthurian Legend, Uther Pendragon was but one of the many Rulers and Barons that held Kingdoms throughout a fractured and non-united Ancient England. Uther relished power and wanted all The rival Kingdoms to be under one Ruler (namely Uther). He raised a mighty Army and commenced to make War upon the other Ruler's Kingdom. Somewhat effective, he came under the watchful gaze of the great and powerful Magician Merlin. Merlin (who had the power of Future sight), “knew” that while Uther would somewhat unite The Kingdoms, he would not be King. It was his “seed” (Arthur) that would become the one “True King”. Uther's bloodline was said to be linked in form to those of The Rulers of Ancient Rome. His demise has several versions. The most popular being that, after he had dispatched Gorlois and taken his Wife Igraine for his own (and conceiving a Son), many of the beaten Lords of Uther's conquests conspired to assassinate him. Bribing his personal Guard, Uther was murdered while moving from one Kingdom to another. In this, Pendragon also was responsible for placing Excalibur (his Sword), into The Stone – to keep it out of his Assassin's hands.
