The personification of both ‘’Darkness’’ and ‘’Lord of The Underworld’’ – ‘’Tuoni’’ was The Finnish equivalent to The Devil. His ‘’Children’’ (of which there was many), were personifications of every malady and calamity which could befall Mankind. He ‘’appeared’’ in Human form as an ‘’Elderly Man’, always in need of some form of assistance. But this was His ruse. He often made bargains which involved One losing Their Soul and becoming damned. Tuoni could be ‘’found out’’ by looking at His hands, which only had three fingers each. Much of the belief in Tuoni vanished with the adoption of general Christianity.
