''Tom Hickathrift'' had origins in early Anglo-Saxon (English) Fables, and was seen as a symbolic character used to illustrate ''French'' oppression. Tom was seen as being similar (or even the basis for the Fable ''Jack The Giant Killer''. Tom Hickathrift had two appearances. The first, was that He too was a Giant, that fought ''larger species''. Other versions have Tom as an ''ordinary young man, with extraordinary strength''. In one Tale, Tom took the axle and Wheel from a Cart and used it as a makeshift ''Maul'' to kill a Giant Terrorizing The Countryside. Tom is not considered part of The ''Mater of England''.
