According to Polynesian Mythos, ''Tinirau'' was Patron of all Sea Life. A ''Creation Deity'', He could manipulate Sealife to wither be beneficial (helpful) to Mankind or be against Him. He was often associated with Shark attacks – seen as His ''revenge'' against Humans for their transgressions against Life in The Sea. Some Island Legends also find Tinirau as being invoked to protect Young Lovers, whose affections are forbidden by their Parents. He is often portrayed in art as a Shark.
