From Burmese-Indian Lore, ‘’Thongalen’’ was a ‘’Death Deity’’ tasked with not only protection of The Afterlife (Underworld), but guiding those Souls into Their ‘’next realm of existence’’. He was portrayed often in Art and Literature as a Peasant (bird). A specialized Hymn of Prayer was sung to Thongalen to ask for His Patronage for the recently Departed.
