Long a ''hotbed'' for some of the most intriguing if albeit unconfirmed and famous UFO sightings, contacts and a host of ''parascience phenomenon'' over the past 75 years, The Montauk Project was named for Montauk Air Force Station in Montauk, New York. An active Military Reservation since 1792, it became a US Army Air Force Base in 1942 (known as Camp (Fort) Hero). The Reservation was used for a great many things during World War II, to include weapons testing. It's primary goal was however, to protect that portion of The Atlantic Ocean (where it touched upon The State) from possible German U-Boat attack. The Fort had an impressive collection of high-caliber cannon (Coastal artillery). During The Cold War, Montauk was the site of an Ultra Top Secret radar detection relay, established to track possible Soviet attack by Nuclear weapons. The large stone tower supported a massive array system (for which the Site was most readily known in the 20th Century). The Post was decommissioned in 1981 by The US Air Force which decided to leave the massive array in place (due to being too expensive to dismantle and destroy). However, for many years since the 1950s, The site was well known as being used for ''strange experiments'' concerning everything from Time Travel to Back Engineering captured Alien Technology. The previous discussed ''Philadelphia Experiment'' did not apparently stop with the purported 1943 ''disaster''. It was furthered and refined at Montauk. In fact, actual Time Travel was said to have been achieved there. One more than one occasion in the 1980s, ''strange and unexplained'' lights seen above from The Post, as well as quite a few reports of UFOs (to include photos) have surfaced. And while decommissioned in 1981, The Post is still guarded by USAF security Police. In a very similar tactic as with Nevada's ''Area 51'', One will find signage ''warning'' that the ''Use of Deadly Force is Authorized'' on any Trespasser.
