Seen as a type of Grimoire by some, Mathers volume provides a glimpse into the overall superstitious beliefs of The Puritans. The majority of The Book relies on God and The Bible as the ultimate means to purge The Colonies of all Witches and to stem the tide of ‘’Magical Charms, Talismans etc.) However, by 1700 – many more ‘’modern’’ thinking Scholars refuted Mathers Book as ‘’hysteria’’ which no doubt helped to advance the fervor that swirled around the Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692.
