This particular ''Legend'' centers around Walgren Lake (sometimes known as Alkali Lake) – located in Hay Springs, Nebraska (US). It centers around an older Native American Myth of a giant ''creature'' that lives in that body of water. The Beast was claimed to be part-reptile and and ''unknown other species''. The creature had two strong forearms with claws, but only flipper appendages for rear ''legs''. A mouth full of sharp teeth, The Beast also had a long tusk on the top of the head. It was commonly though to be as much as 40-feet long and weighed hundreds of pounds. Vicious, Native Americans of the Region warned their young to never go down alone to The Lake – for fear The Creature would eat them. With European Settlers, came renewed tales of ''something being seen'' in The Lake. The occasional cow or horse (even dog) going missing was blamed on The Beast. By the early 19th Century AD, some modern Arcane Historians cite that rebel Irish Settlers to the Region were threatened with attack by The British. Several Warships were dispatched along The Mississippi River (North) – to quell a possible rebellion. It is thought that perhaps the tale of The Beast was ''created'' to ''scare'' The British. In the 1920s and 1930s, many claimed to have seen The Beast. However, no real photographic proof has ever been offered (although several faked photos were made, possibly for the tourist trade). Some scientists claim that The Beast may really be some for of ''giant catfish'' or related species of overly large scavenger fish.
