The Van Meter Monster

The following Tale of The ‘’Van Meter Monster’’ may well be nothing more than a fanciful early example of Urban Legend. Set in 1903, in the American Town of Van Meter, Iowa – the tale would spread to many Newspapers in The State. The ‘’encounter’’ involved Townspeople reporting a ‘’large Reptilian Creature with wings’’ terrorizing the Region. Just before a sighting of The Creature – an extremely foul stench could be detected. The Beast was said to emit a ‘’strange beam of burning light’’ from it’s Head (which today would be a laser beam). The Creature was said to attack cows, horses and other animals. Finally, a Newspaper reports state – a Group of Townspeople tracked down The Creature to an abandoned Mine. The Men fired rifles at the retreating Creature (who was escaping inside The Mine). But suddenly ANOTHER Beast appeared. Shocked, The Men watched as the two Creatures vanished into the darkness of the Mine. The Monsters were never reported again. The Case would be (much later) examined for possible UFO activity in The Region – linking the Creatures to possible Extraterrestrial Life. But too date very little reports have been found of sightings from 1900 to 1910 in Iowa. And while local Native American Mythology has it’s variants, nothing close matches. Could (if real), these Creatures by ‘’Deep Earth’’ Dwellers, who are still around – but much more adept at hiding Their existence?
