Made popular by a a 1982 Sci-Fi novel and 1984 Movie The Philadelphia Experiment. The US Government states that NOTHING happened to the USS ''Eldridge'' as it did in the film. The movie deals with a Top Secret Government experiment involving radar invisibility for The US Navy in WWII. The movie deals with an accident that killed most of the crew and sent others hurtling through time some 40 years into the future. What IS known is that there WAS a Top Secret experiment at The Philadelphia Naval Yard in 1943. Using theories developed by Nicolo Tesla, The USS ''Eldridge'' was wrapped in reinforced electrically conductive cable. Hooked to an unknown power source , a Field of energy was generated . The ship was said to have vanished physically for several seconds. It was not detected on radar or visually for that matter! Another claim was that the ship stayed in the Harbor and the CREW teleported into Norfolk, Virginia! When the Crew returned , some were melded into the ships deck and plating (as was portrayed in the 1984 movie). Some sources claimed that the technology for the experiment was in reality taken and back engineered from earlier UFO crash sites. Even when a reunion of The ''Eldridge'' Crew happened in the 1970s, they refused to talk about the experiment. After The War, ''Eldridge'' was sold to The Greek Navy and was eventually scrapped.
